Spiritual Circles and Narcissists

Acting Spiritual is very easy to fake and many in the spiritual & religious circles are naive and gullible. Such people are particularly vulnerable to the narcissist’s manipulation and deception. Over the time Spiritual circles have become prime hunting ground for narcissists, with little real accountability and significant opportunity for attention & commercial exploitation.

Spirituality has always been open to individuals from all walks of life, which makes it more susceptible to be victims of various kinds of Narcissists. Narcissists can and will adapt their behavior and words to promote their image and use spiritual and religious organizations to achieve their objectives. Usually the approach is text book definition of typical “love bombing”, which never goes out of fashion for a rookie Narcissist.

Typical move of a Narcissist

Narcissists identify their victims at a very early stage and hook onto them like psychic vampires. The potential victims are provided with all the attention, care, concerns and their fears are manipulated. Such vulnerability is exploited further with spiritual bypassing, often the victims are told that they are meant to play very important role in the upliftment of spiritual energies of the world, planet and the whole of human consciousness.

One of the most important factor is the “mission”, yes as the dictionary defines it as “an important assignment given to a person or group of people”. A Spiritual Narcissist engages with their audience by making them feel important & special, usually by hooking onto their vulnerabilities.

Tips to identifying a spiritual narcissist?

The signs are simple, obvious and written all over the wall – exploitation is the key word. If someone ‘sells’ you a dream of importance and feeds on the placebo effect in the first few meetings then listen to your guards. With the shrinking space between real and the ‘world wide web’, the narcissists are never short of their supply and so is the competition to hook onto the victim.
